Kepler-149 and Its Three Worlds

Kepler-149 is a star located 1860 light-years away. It is 6.31 billion years old and has a mass of 0.92 solar masses, a radius of 0.9 solar radii, and a temperature of 5380 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. Three planets orbit this host.

Kepler-149 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2014. It has an orbital period of 29.2 days and a radius of 4.21 Earth radii. Kepler-149 c is a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2014, with an orbital period of 55.3 days and a radius of 1.61 Earth radii. Kepler-149 d is a Neptune-like planet discovered by transit in 2014. It has an orbital period of 160 days and a radius of 3.96 Earth radii. Each planet's reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.

A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Among the listed planets, Kepler-149 b has the shortest year, at 29.2 days, while Kepler-149 d has the longest, at 160 days. Kepler-149 c has the second-shortest year, at 55.3 days. In radius, Kepler-149 b is the largest at 4.21 Earth radii, Kepler-149 c is the smallest at 1.61 Earth radii, and Kepler-149 d is the second-smallest at 3.96 Earth radii.
