Kepler-1469 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1469 is a star located 3780 light-years from Earth. It has 0.92 solar masses and a radius of 0.89 solar radii, making it slightly smaller than the Sun in both respects. Its reported temperature of 5510 K is cooler than the Sun's, and the star is 4.47 billion years old. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-1469 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. Kepler-1469 b completes one orbit every 21.9 days. Its radius of 2.8 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and the planet is classified as Neptune-like, a size class that reaches 4 times Earth's radius.
