Kepler-1446 and Its Sub-Earth Planet

Kepler-1446 is a star 496 light-years away with a mass of 0.81 solar masses and a radius of 0.75 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature of 4870 K is cooler than the Sun's, and it is 2.63 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, Kepler-1446 b, is a Sub-Earth, a size class for planets smaller than Earth. Its radius is 0.82 Earth radii, smaller than Earth's, and it completes an orbit every 0.69 days. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods.
