Kepler-1385 b: A Sub-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1385 is a star located 2250 light-years away, with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is estimated to be 4.37 billion years old and has a mass of 1.15 solar masses, a radius of 1.29 solar radii, and a temperature of 5730 K. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1385 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period, which is 2.89 days. The planet's radius is 0.85 Earth radii, meaning it is smaller than Earth and therefore classified as a Sub-Earth.
