Kepler-1301 and Its Earth-Like Planet

Kepler-1301 is a star 2790 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 4.9 billion years old and has a mass of 0.85 solar masses, a radius of 0.81 solar radii, and a temperature of 5190 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1301 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it from our viewpoint. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period, the time it takes to complete one orbit. Kepler-1301 b orbits every 9.08 days and has a radius of 1.4 Earth radii. That radius is larger than Earth's and places the planet in the Earth-like size class, which stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
