Kepler-1292 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1292 is a star located 4870 light-years away. It is 4.68 billion years old and has a mass of 0.95 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's. Its radius is 0.93 solar radii, and its temperature is 5560 K, cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-1292 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1292 b completes an orbit every 3.28 days. Its radius is 1.82 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, placing it in the Super-Earth class, which reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
