Kepler-1266 and Its Two Planets

Kepler-1266 is a star 2770 light-years away with two planets orbiting it. The star is 5.13 billion years old, has a mass of 0.8 solar masses, a radius of 0.76 solar radii, and a temperature of 5040 K. Its mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's, and it is cooler than the Sun.

Both planets were found by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. Kepler-1266 b is a Neptune-like planet discovered in 2016. It has a radius of 2.58 Earth radii and an orbital period of 28.5 days. That radius is larger than Earth's and is the largest among the listed planets. Its year is also the longest among the listed planets.

Kepler-1266 c is a Super-Earth discovered in 2021. It has a radius of 1.68 Earth radii and an orbital period of 4.87 days. Its radius is larger than Earth's but is the smallest among the listed planets. Its year is the shortest among the listed planets, at 4.87 days.
