Kepler-1237 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1237 is a star located 3470 light-years away, and it hosts exactly one known planet. The star is estimated to be 4.57 billion years old. Its mass is 0.94 solar masses, its radius is 0.9 solar radii, and its temperature is 5470 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The sole planet in this system is Kepler-1237 b. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1237 b is a Neptune-like planet, a size class that includes planets with radii up to 4 times Earth's. Its radius is 2.86 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's, and it completes one orbit in 84.6 days.
