Kepler-1229 and Its Earth-Sized Planet

Kepler-1229 is a star located 866 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 1.5 billion years old, with a mass of 0.48 solar masses and a radius of 0.45 solar radii. Its temperature is 3580 K, cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1229 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1229 b has an orbital period of 86.8 days and a radius of 1.4 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its Earth-like classification places it within 1.5 times Earth's radius, a size class based on radius rather than composition.
