Kepler-1202 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1202 is a star located 3830 light-years away. It has an age of 4.17 billion years, a mass of 1.03 solar masses, a radius of 1.04 solar radii, and a temperature of 5830 K. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-1202 b, is classified as Neptune-like. It was discovered in 2016 using the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1202 b completes one orbit every 28.7 days, and its reported radius estimate is 2.94 Earth radii. This radius is larger than Earth's.
