Kepler-1180 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1180 is a star 5210 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 3.09 billion years old and has a mass of 1.09 solar masses and a radius of 1.14 solar radii. Its temperature is 6080 K, hotter than the Sun, and its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1180 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1180 b completes an orbit every 16.9 days. It is a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, and its radius is 1.99 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
