Kepler-1178 and Its Earth-like Planet

Kepler-1178 is a star 1570 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 4.68 billion years old, with a mass of 0.8 solar masses, a radius of 0.75 solar radii, and a temperature of 4990 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1178 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1178 b completes an orbit every 31.8 days and has a radius of 1.07 Earth radii. That radius places it in the Earth-like size class, which covers planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.
