Kepler-1150 b: A Close-In Earth-Sized World

Kepler-1150 is a star system 1170 light-years away that is known to host one planet. The host star is estimated to be 4.68 billion years old, with a mass of 0.76 solar masses and a radius of 0.72 solar radii. Its temperature is 4750 K, and its mass, radius, and temperature are all smaller or cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1150 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1150 b completes an orbit every 2.79 days and has a radius of 1.02 Earth radii. Its Earth-like classification places it within 1.5 times Earth's radius, a size class based on radius rather than composition.
