Kepler-1132 b: A Super-Earth Orbiting a Distant Star

Kepler-1132 is a star located 2830 light-years away, and it hosts exactly one known planet. The star is estimated to be 4.57 billion years old, with a mass of 0.87 solar masses and a radius of 0.83 solar radii. Its temperature is 5300 K, which is cooler than the Sun, and both its mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The sole planet in this system is Kepler-1132 b, a Super-Earth discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1132 b completes one orbit every 62.9 days and has a radius of 2.35 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. In size classification, a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, so this planet's radius places it within that category.
