Kepler-1126: A Distant Star With Two Small Worlds

Kepler-1126 is a star 2070 light-years away with two planets orbiting it. The star is 5.5 billion years old, has 0.92 solar masses and 0.93 solar radii, and a temperature of 5800 K. Its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's.

Both planets were found by transit, the method in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1126 b, discovered in 2016, is a Super-Earth with a radius of 1.73 Earth radii and an orbital period of 109 days. Kepler-1126 c, discovered in 2023, is Earth-like with a radius of 1.45 Earth radii and an orbital period of 200 days. The reported radius estimate of each planet is larger than Earth's.

Among the listed planets, Kepler-1126 b has the shortest year by reported estimates, at 109 days, and the largest radius, at 1.73 Earth radii. Kepler-1126 c has the longest year, at 200 days, and the smallest radius, at 1.45 Earth radii.
