Kepler-1109 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1109 is a star located 2230 light-years from Earth. It has one known planet. The host star is 3.8 billion years old and contains 1.05 solar masses of material within a radius of 1.06 solar radii. Its surface temperature is 5890 K.

The system's only known planet, Kepler-1109 b, was discovered in 2016 using the transit method, which detects the slight dimming of a star as a planet crosses in front of it. Kepler-1109 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 2.19 Earth radii, a reported estimate larger than Earth's. The planet completes one orbit every 37.6 days.
