Kepler-1088 b: A Transiting Earth-Like World

Kepler-1088 is a star 915 light-years from Earth. Its age is 3.02 billion years, with a mass of 1.08 solar masses and a radius of 1.08 solar radii. Its temperature of 5980 K is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, Kepler-1088 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint and produces a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1088 b completes an orbit every 23.1 days. Its radius of 1.42 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and its size class, Earth-like, means it stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
