Kepler-1087 and Its Sub-Earth Planet

Kepler-1087 is a star 1180 light-years away with a single known planet in its system. The host star is 3.55 billion years old, has a mass of 0.96 solar masses, and a radius of 0.94 solar radii. Its temperature of 5590 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The one planet orbiting Kepler-1087 is Kepler-1087 b, discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and this planet completes its orbit in 0.694 days. Kepler-1087 b is classified as a Sub-Earth, meaning its radius is smaller than Earth's. Its radius is 0.61 Earth radii, and its reported radius estimate is smaller than Earth's.
