Kepler-1056 b: A Neptune-like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1056 is a single star located 3200 light-years away. It has one known planet. The star is 2.95 billion years old, with a mass of 1.12 solar masses and a radius of 1.2 solar radii. Its temperature is 6130 K, and its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1056 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1056 b completes an orbit every 27.5 days, and its radius is 3.01 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's, placing it in the Neptune-like size class, which reaches up to 4 times Earth's radius.
