Kepler-1039 and Its Earth-like Planet

Kepler-1039 is a star located 1000 light-years away, and one planet orbits it. The star is 4.37 billion years old, with a mass of 0.79 solar masses and a radius of 0.74 solar radii, making it both less massive and smaller than the Sun. Its temperature of 4870 K is also cooler than the Sun's.

The known planet, Kepler-1039 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips of this kind help establish a planet's orbital period. Kepler-1039 b completes one orbit in 0.935 days, and its radius of 1.46 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. That radius places it within the Earth-like size class, which covers planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.
