Kepler-1018: A Distant Star and Its Neptune-Like World

Kepler-1018 is a star located 3290 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 4.47 billion years old, with a mass of 0.91 solar masses and a radius of 0.88 solar radii, making it somewhat smaller than the Sun in both mass and radius. Its temperature is 5520 K, cooler than the Sun's.

The sole planet in this system is Kepler-1018 b, a Neptune-like world discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1018 b completes one orbit in 49.1 days. Its radius is 2.58 Earth radii, larger than Earth's; this places it within the Neptune-like size class, which extends to four times Earth's radius.
