Kepler-1009 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1009 is a star 1160 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 3.16 billion years old and has a mass of 0.59 solar masses, a radius of 0.57 solar radii, and a temperature of 4030 K, making it smaller, less massive, and cooler than the Sun.

The planet, Kepler-1009 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1009 b has a radius of 2.17 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 11.4 days. Its size places it in the Super-Earth class, which compares radius with Earth's rather than indicating composition.
