Kepler-1686 b: A Nearby Earth-Like World in the Kepler Catalog

Kepler-1686 is a star located 2380 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star has a mass of 1.02 solar masses, a radius of 1.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 5710 K. Its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's.

The single planet in this system is Kepler-1686 b, an Earth-like world discovered by the transit method in 2020. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1686 b orbits its star every 9.31 days and has a radius of 1.43 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. As an Earth-like planet, its size class places it within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
