Kepler-1380 and Its Lone Known Planet

Kepler-1380 is a single star located 8030 light-years away. It is older than the Solar System at 4.79 billion years, and with 0.96 solar masses and 0.94 solar radii it is slightly less massive and slightly smaller than the Sun. Its reported temperature of 5570 K is cooler than the Sun's, and it hosts one known planet.

That planet, Kepler-1380 b, was found by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and Kepler-1380 b completes one orbit every 10.3 days. Its radius is 1.43 Earth radii, a reported estimate larger than Earth's. For a planet, that radius places it inside the Earth-like size class, which stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
