Kepler-1214 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1214 is a star located 2380 light-years away, with one known planet in orbit. The host star is estimated to be 4.68 billion years old, with a mass of 0.85 solar masses and a radius of 0.8 solar radii. Its temperature is 5130 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet is Kepler-1214 b, a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1214 b completes an orbit every 18.8 days and has a radius of 2.36 Earth radii. This radius estimate is larger than Earth's. Planet size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius.
