Kepler-117: A Distant Star With Two Giant Planets

Kepler-117 is an F8 V star located 4750 light-years away. This host star has a mass of 1.13 solar masses, a radius of 1.61 solar radii, and a temperature of 6150 K. Its age is 5.3 billion years. The star's reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

Two planets orbit Kepler-117. Both were discovered by transit in 2014, and both are Jupiter-like.

Kepler-117 b has a mass of 29.9 Earth masses, a radius of 8.06 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 18.8 days. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's, and its reported mass estimate is larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.314 g/cm³, 0.0571 times Earth's. Among the listed planets, Kepler-117 b has the shortest year by reported estimates, the smallest radius by reported estimates, and the smallest reported mass.

Kepler-117 c has a mass of 585 Earth masses, a radius of 12.3 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 50.8 days. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's, and its reported mass estimate is larger than Earth's. Its reported mass estimate is roughly 1.84 times Jupiter's mass, and its mean density is 1.71 g/cm³, 0.311 times Earth's. Among the listed planets, Kepler-117 c has the longest year by reported estimates, the largest radius by reported estimates, and the largest reported mass.
