Kepler-1161 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1161 is a star 1790 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 3.39 billion years old, with a mass of 0.59 solar masses and a radius of 0.57 solar radii. Its temperature is 4250 K, cooler than the Sun's, and both its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1161 b was discovered by transit in 2016, when it passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips helped establish its orbital period of 10.7 days. Classified as a Super-Earth, it has a radius of 2.13 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
