Kepler-1157 b: A Close-In Earth-Sized World

Kepler-1157 is a star 1120 light-years away with one known planet. The host star has a mass of 0.76 solar masses and a radius of 0.71 solar radii, making it smaller than the Sun in both respects. Its temperature of 4680 K is cooler than the Sun's, and its age is 3.39 billion years.

The planet Kepler-1157 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and this planet completes one orbit every 4.46 days. Its radius is 1.09 Earth radii, placing it in the Earth-like size class, which covers planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.
