KELT-23 A and Its Jupiter-like Planet

KELT-23 A is a G2 V star 412 light-years away. It is a Sun-like main-sequence dwarf with 0.944 solar masses, 0.996 solar radii, and a temperature of 5900 K. It is 6.4 billion years old, making it older than the Sun. One known planet orbits this star.

KELT-23 A b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2019. It has an orbital period of 2.26 days. Its radius is 14.8 Earth radii, and its mass is 298 Earth masses. Both figures are larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mean density is 0.504 g/cm³, which is 0.0914 times Earth's. A Jupiter-like planet exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods.
