K2-66: A Distant Star With One Super-Earth

K2-66 is a star 1680 light-years away with one known planet. The host star has a mass of 1.06 solar masses and a radius of 1.79 solar radii, larger than the Sun's. Its temperature is 5870 K.

The planet K2-66 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. It was found by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-66 b was discovered in 2016. Its radius is 2.49 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 21.3 Earth masses, larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 7.6 g/cm³, 1.38 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 5.07 days.
