K2-43: A Cool Star with Two Transiting Planets

K2-43 is a star located 595 light-years away, and it hosts two known planets. The star has a reported mass of 0.557 solar masses, a radius of 0.563 solar radii, and a temperature of 3700 K, all smaller or cooler than the Sun's corresponding values. Both planets were found by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness.

The two planets differ substantially in size. K2-43 b is classified as Jupiter-like, with a radius of 4.51 Earth radii, larger than Earth's and the largest among the listed planets. Its orbital period is 3.47 days, the longest year among the listed planets. K2-43 c is a Super-Earth with a radius of 2.42 Earth radii, larger than Earth's but the smallest among the listed planets, and it completes an orbit in 2.2 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. K2-43 b was discovered in 2016 and K2-43 c in 2019.
