K2-419 A b: A Transiting Jupiter-like Planet in a Two-Star System

K2-419 A is a star 876 light-years from Earth, within a system that also contains a stellar companion. The host star is estimated to be 7.4 billion years old, with a mass of 0.562 solar masses, a radius of 0.541 solar radii, and a temperature of 3710 K. Its mass and radius are both smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler.

One planet orbits this star: K2-419 A b, a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2024. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-419 A b completes an orbit every 20.4 days. Its radius is 10.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, which places it above the Jupiter-like threshold of four times Earth's radius. Its mass estimate is 196 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's, and its mean density of 0.92 g/cm³ is 0.167 times Earth's.
