K2-392 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant Star System

K2-392 is a G3 star located 1330 light-years away. As a G3 star, it belongs to the same broad temperature class as the Sun, and its spectral type places it among the G-type stars that are hotter than K-type and cooler than F-type stars. The star has a mass of 0.841 solar masses, a radius of 1.06 solar radii, and a temperature of 5730 K. One planet orbits this star.

That planet is K2-392 b, a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2022. The transit method detects a planet when it passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-392 b completes an orbit every 15.4 days and has a radius of 1.85 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. A Super-Earth size class reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius, placing K2-392 b within that range.
