K2-315 is an M-type main-sequence star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 186 light-years away. It has a reported mass of 0.174 solar masses, a radius of 0.196 solar radii, and a temperature of 3300 K. Its age carries a reported lower limit of 1 billion years. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature are each smaller or cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.
That planet, K2-315 b, was discovered in 2020 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is a Sub-Earth, a size class smaller than Earth, with a radius of 0.95 Earth radii. It completes an orbit every 3.14 days.
