K2-284 b: A Neptune-Like World Orbiting a Small Star

K2-284 is a star located 350 light-years from Earth. It has one known planet, K2-284 b, which was discovered by the transit method in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

The host star K2-284 has a mass of 0.63 solar masses, a radius of 0.607 solar radii, and a temperature of 4140 K. Its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is also smaller, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's. The star's age is 0.12 billion years.

K2-284 b is classified as Neptune-like. It orbits its star every 4.8 days and has a radius of 2.78 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
