K2-27 b: A Giant Planet Orbiting a Cool Star

K2-27 is a star located 814 light-years away, and it has one known planet. The host star is estimated to be 10.3 billion years old, with a mass of 0.866 solar masses and a radius of 0.885 solar radii. Its temperature is 5250 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet K2-27 b is a Jupiter-like world, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's radius. Its radius is 4.74 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 30.2 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 6.77 days. Its mean density is 1.56 g/cm³, which is 0.284 times Earth's. K2-27 b was discovered in 2016 using the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness.
