K2-251 is a star located 480 light-years away, with one planet known to orbit it. The host star has a mass of 0.52 solar masses, a radius of 0.49 solar radii, and a temperature of 3720 K, making it smaller, less massive, and cooler than the Sun.
The system's sole known planet, K2-251 b, is classified as a Super-Earth and was discovered by the transit method in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-251 b completes an orbit every 9.3 days and has a radius of 2.35 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
