K2-224 and Its Two Super-Earths

K2-224 is a star 898 light-years away with two planets, both discovered by transit in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature of 5620 K is cooler than the Sun's.

Both planets are Super-Earths, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. K2-224 b has a radius of 1.56 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and completes an orbit in 4.48 days. K2-224 c has a radius of 2.41 Earth radii, also larger than Earth's, and completes an orbit in 10.1 days. Among the listed planets, K2-224 b has the shortest year and the smallest radius by reported estimates, while K2-224 c has the longest year and the largest radius.
