K2-211 b: A Close-Orbiting Earth-Like Planet

K2-211 is a star 888 light-years from Earth with one known planet in orbit around it. The star is estimated to be 6.5 billion years old, with a mass of 0.851 solar masses and a radius of 0.818 solar radii. Its temperature is 5120 K. Each of these estimates is smaller or cooler than the corresponding value for the Sun.

The planet, K2-211 b, was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-211 b completes one orbit in 0.67 days. Its radius is 1.33 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. That radius places it in the Earth-like size class, defined as within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
