K2-204 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

K2-204 is a star located 1,880 light-years from Earth. It is 6.5 billion years old, holds 1.08 solar masses, spans 1.25 solar radii, and has a temperature of 5780 K. Its radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, K2-204 b, is a Neptune-like world, a size class that reaches up to four times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-204 b completes an orbit every 7.06 days and has a radius of 3.17 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
