K2-183: A Cool Star with Three Known Planets

K2-183 is a star located 1070 light-years away. Its mass is 0.95 solar masses and its radius is 0.969 solar radii, and its reported temperature of 5440 K is cooler than the Sun's. Three planets are known to orbit this star, all discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness.

K2-183 b is an Earth-like planet with a radius of 1.1 Earth radii and an orbital period of 0.469 days. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year and the smallest radius. K2-183 c and K2-183 d are both Super-Earths with radii of 2.3 Earth radii. Their orbital periods are 10.8 days and 22.6 days, respectively, making K2-183 c the second-shortest year among the listed planets and K2-183 d the longest.

Size classifications compare radius with Earth's: an Earth-like planet stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius, while a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times. The reported radius estimates of all three planets are larger than Earth's.
