K2-181 b: A Neptune-like World in a Distant System

K2-181 is a star located 1180 light-years away, with an age of 5.9 billion years. Its mass is 1.02 solar masses, its radius is 1.04 solar radii, and its temperature is 5520 K. The star's reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is K2-181 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by transit in 2018. Transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. K2-181 b has an orbital period of 6.89 days and a radius of 2.69 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's. As a Neptune-like planet, it falls within the size class reaching up to 4 times Earth's radius.
