K2-174 b: A Neptune-Like World Orbiting a Cool Dwarf Star

K2-174 is a star located 326 light-years from Earth, and it hosts one known planet. The star's reported mass estimate is 0.66 solar masses, its radius is 0.759 solar radii, and its temperature is 4250 K. Each of these values is smaller or cooler than the corresponding solar figure. The star is cooler than the Sun, with a temperature of 4250 K, and its radius and mass estimates are both smaller than the Sun's.

The planet, K2-174 b, is classified as Neptune-like. It was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, which occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-174 b completes one orbit in 19.6 days. Its radius estimate is 2.6 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's.
