K2-153 b: A Super-Earth Orbiting a Cool Red Dwarf

K2-153 is an M3.0 V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 467 light-years away. It has one known planet. The star's reported mass estimate is 0.512 solar masses, its reported radius estimate is 0.495 solar radii, and its temperature is 3720 K. Each of these is smaller or cooler than the corresponding value for the Sun.

The planet K2-153 b is classified as a Super-Earth and was discovered by the transit method in 2018. Its orbital period is 7.52 days, and its radius is 2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.

A Super-Earth is a size class: such a planet reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness.
