HIP 14810 and Its Three Known Planets

HIP 14810 is a G-type main-sequence star 165 light-years from Earth. It is estimated to be 6 billion years old, with a mass of 1 solar mass and a radius of 1.06 solar radii, and its temperature of 5540 K is cooler than the Sun's. Three planets have been reported orbiting this star, all discovered by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion.

HIP 14810 b was reported in 2005. Its minimum mass is 1240 Earth masses, or roughly 3.9 times Jupiter's mass, and it completes an orbit in 6.67 days. That is the shortest period among the listed planets.

HIP 14810 c followed in 2006. It has a minimum mass of 416 Earth masses, roughly 1.31 times Jupiter's mass, and an orbital period of 148 days, the second-shortest among the listed planets.

HIP 14810 d, reported in 2009, orbits every 982 days, the longest period among the listed planets. Its minimum mass is 188 Earth masses, the smallest among them. Like the other two, its minimum mass is larger than Earth's.
