HD 98736 b: A Giant Planet Orbiting a Sun-Like Star

HD 98736 is a G-type star located 106 light-years from Earth. It is accompanied by a stellar companion, making the system a binary. The host star has a mass of 0.92 solar masses and a radius of 0.93 solar radii, meaning it is slightly smaller than the Sun. Its temperature of 5270 K is cooler than the Sun's, and it is estimated to be 7.39 billion years old.

One planet has been found orbiting this star. HD 98736 b was discovered in 2018 using the radial velocity method, which detects the gravitational wobble a planet induces in its star's motion. The planet has a minimum mass of 741 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass that is roughly 2.33 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 969 days.
