HD 82943: A Sun-Like Star With Two Known Planets

HD 82943 is a G2/3V star located 90 light-years away. This spectral type indicates a star similar in class to the Sun. The star has a mass of 1.13 solar masses and a radius of 1.14 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 6000 K, hotter than the Sun's, and its age is 2.84 billion years.

Two planets are known to orbit this host. Both were discovered in 2003 using the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. HD 82943 c has a mass of 623 Earth masses, roughly 1.96 times Jupiter's mass, and completes one orbit in 220 days. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year and the largest reported mass. HD 82943 b has a mass of 534 Earth masses, roughly 1.68 times Jupiter's mass, and an orbital period of 441 days. Among the listed planets, it has the longest year and the smallest reported mass. Both planets are more massive than Earth.
