HD 74698 and Its Two Known Planets

HD 74698 is a G-type dwarf star 170 light-years away. Its spectral type, G5 V, marks it as Sun-like, and it is 7.85 billion years old, 1.04 solar masses, 1.33 solar radii, and 5780 K in temperature. Two planets are known to orbit it, both discovered in 2023 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion and, through repeated wobbles, reveals the planet and its orbital period.

HD 74698 b has a minimum mass of 23 Earth masses and an orbital period of 15 days. HD 74698 c, the more massive of the pair, has a minimum mass of 126 Earth masses and an orbital period of 3450 days.

The star's mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its radius estimate is also larger. Among the listed planets, HD 74698 b has the shortest period, at 15 days, while HD 74698 c has the longest, at 3450 days. HD 74698 b also has the smallest minimum mass, and HD 74698 c the largest.
