HD 72659 and Its Two Known Planets

HD 72659 is a G2 V star, a Sun-like main-sequence dwarf, located 169 light-years from us. Its reported mass is 1.06 solar masses, its radius 1.36 solar radii, and its temperature 5930 K, making it more massive, larger, and hotter than the Sun. It is estimated to be 6.5 billion years old. Two planets are known to orbit this star.

HD 72659 b was discovered in 2002 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 906 Earth masses, or roughly 2.85 times Jupiter's mass, and it completes an orbit in 3550 days. HD 72659 c was discovered in 2022 by the same method. Its reported mass is 6170 Earth masses, roughly 19.4 times Jupiter's mass, and it orbits in 35500 days.
