HD 4732: A K-Type Star with Two Giant Companions

HD 4732 is a star located 179 light-years away, and two planets have been reported in orbit around it. The host is a K0 IV star, a class of cooler, more evolved stars than the Sun. It is estimated to be 1.47 billion years old, with a mass of 1.81 solar masses and a radius of 4.94 solar radii. Its temperature is 4990 K.

The star's reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. These measurements describe the host star alone.

Both planets were discovered in 2012 using the radial velocity method, which detects the gravitational wobble a planet induces in its star's motion. HD 4732 b has a minimum mass of 631 Earth masses and an orbital period of 372 days. That minimum mass is larger than Earth's and roughly 1.99 times Jupiter's mass.

HD 4732 c has a minimum mass of 1070 Earth masses and an orbital period of 3180 days. Its minimum mass is larger than Earth's and roughly 3.37 times Jupiter's mass.

Among the listed planets, HD 4732 b has the shortest year by reported estimates, at 372 days, and the smallest minimum mass, at 631 Earth masses. HD 4732 c has the longest year by reported estimates, at 3180 days, and the largest minimum mass, at 1070 Earth masses.
